The roller derby community
We are proud to be part of and to contribute to the wider roller derby community. We are active members of WFTDA, regularly taking part in discussions and votes around the progression of our sport.
As one of the oldest leagues in Scotland, we have been delighted to watch the immense growth of the sport in our wee country, and have supported our fellow leagues with advice, coaching, guest skaters and mentorship. We have also donated roller derby ephemera to and supported the National Museum of Roller Derby, curated and archived by Glasgow Women’s Library.
In 2017, we organised and hosted the first Big Blether – a chance for all Scottish Derby leagues to get together and talk about Scottish Roller Derby, what’s working, what could be better, and how we make that happen. We are proud that our idea has become an annual event of the Scottish Roller Derby Community, and we look forward to meeting up and building community links that can make Scottish Derby stronger.
Edinburgh Communities
In 2017, we were proud winners of the Special Achievement in Sport Award at the ClubSport Edinburgh Sport Awards.
We regularly support community events – we have a presence at Edinburgh Pride every year, attend the Edinburgh University Feminist Fair, and regularly run the popular sports activities at Portobello Town Fair. We have also run our own community event – our popular Family Fun Day, with stalls, games, sports and, of course – lots of family fun! (Photo credit: Neil Wykes)
