how do students take notes these days

Post by Dee Dee » Wed Aug 31, 2016 2:06 pm

Hiya,

I might be starting a Masters next week - maybe - just waiting to hear.

How do students take notes now? In my day it was pen and paper. Is that still the case or are digital items all the rage now?

I still do pen and paper. Writing it all down by hand helps me remember things after.

Some people use tablets or laptops. Laptops are bit noisy though.

Also I would record (just the a normal voice record on my phone) all important lectures and all of my tutorials and then listen to them again later.

ah excellent! I hate typing so as long as other people are pen and paper then I am happy with pen and paper.

Go back to our roots pal - stone and a chisel. Or finger painting. Sorted. :gbanana: :gbanana: :gbanana:

(But yes, pen and paper all the way!)

I do crazy scrawl with pencil and paper in class, then I rewrite them out more orderly later, if it's something I'll want to revise later I might make a PowerPoint :)

I write down then type later. Sounds like doubling your work but it helps it sink in. KlarARRG I like that idea for recording tutorials though! May come in handy soon.

Most uni's will provide lecture slides/materials in advance so you can print them out and then you just add your own notes as you go along. This way you don't have to write down everything! No promises though but it's what I would expect.
